LIVE RIGA Films AWARDED GOLD DOLPHINS AT CANNES

Now they know what Riga is – even in Cannes.

Already well-known in Latvia, the “Insider’s guide to Riga” short film series has stepped up its game and achieved recognition on a new level – none other than Cannes.

At 8th edition of the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards festival held on 28 September, the Live Riga five story series was awarded two Gold Dolphins – in Tourism Films category and Social Media & Short Videos category.

This unconventional tourism campaign, directed by Jānis Nords, gives the viewer a fresh new look of the city from the perspective of five vibrant characters you get to see Riga through the eyes of a Wagner-loving taxi driver and a rather unorthodox priest, as well as an oddball women‘s lifestyle blogger, physics-teaching party animal and an eccentric senior citizen.

At the time of the festival three more short films have joined the campaign the Riga of a godson with street cred like no one else, a bird watcher who barely touches the ground, and a captain who has a very personal relationship with the waters in Riga.

The series of short films has already reached 4.2 million views, 18,500 reactions and 4,500 shares on Facebook, and garnered plenty of compliments in the comments.

Fun fact:  that the number of tourists in Riga in the second quarter of this year has reached a record high – a 12.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Coincidence? Who knows, who knows...

The campaign created by Live Riga in cooperation with DDB has also received awards at Adwards – the Latvian Festival of Creative Excellence, as well as Golden Hammer and Tourfilm Riga International Tourism Film Festival.

The complete series of short films is available here.
