Right now, it’s doubtful whether there’s anybody out there who still hasn’t heard about the friends’ raft or the story about four determined guys who decided to use their homemade raft to sail from the Horn of Kolka to the Isle of Ruhnu and back again. Well now, we can finally reveal the truth – it was a brave partisan campaign sponsored by Zelta alus which was devised and executed by DDB and its allies – Cube and Fuse . More precisely, it was part of Zelta a lus summer sales promotion campaign “Collect for the Golden Moments” whose prize fund included volleyballs and other prizes promoting active leisure. And it’s yet more proof that a good idea has the power to captivate and find followers and to make the news!
And during the weekend before last, the four friends successfully realised their vision. The ramp and its crew set sail from the Horn of Kolka on Saturday morning at 09:00 and landed on the Isle of Ruhnu at eleven o’clock that evening where they were greeted by a standing ovation from locals and champagne courtesy of the island’s Mayor! This unusual voyage captured the attention of Latvia’s leading media channels. News channels produced a number of reports about the friends’ raft and its voyage , and the crew’s adventures also received coverage on Internet sites, radio stations and other media channels. The enthusiasts responsible for the idea also created an eyecatching homepage: http://drauguplosts.lv/ where visitors could stay tuned to the progress of the voyage online and forecast where exactly the guys would end up after their six hour voyage. The person making the most accurate prediction received a prize – the homemade raft. By the way, this site drew 32,000 visitors, each of whom spent at least three minutes surfing
