Festively and sincerely we present MAMMU - the first social business in the European fashion industry (0)

There’s a saying that everything good is repaid ten times over. However, it seems that in launching the social business project MAMMU, its creators had no idea that it was possible to concentrate so much beauty, sincerity and goodness in one place. Or that something good can be repaid not only ten, but countless times over. At the start of this summer, on 16 June, at the Opera’s Lukabuka Store, MAMMU were presented to the general public for the first time.

We’re delighted and proud that we were also given the chance to take part in the creation of MAMMU. In truth, as many as three DDB people played a part in the process which led to the brand taking shape - co-author of the idea and social investor Andris Rubīns, logo and graphic identity designer – Jānis Birznieks and homepage creator – Oskars Cirsis. And the list of co-authors responsible for the birth of the MAMMU idea would definitely not be complete without mentioning its Creative Director Fions Dobins and co-author of the first collection’s design, Līva Ķauķe-Saule.

In a sense, the MAMMU brand, which was created according to the Grameen social business principles, is unique because it is a fusion of fashion, audacious design solutions and social interest. The most visible and tangible end result of the brand are the scarves which are a very simple and sincere accessory, but its primary function is to protect and offer warmth. Care and the desire to offer protection to socially vulnerable sections of society – single mums inspired the name of the brand, MAMMU. It is a social business which gives mums the chance to work by creating scarves. The materials that are used in the creation of the scarves: Latvian linen and recycled cotton are just as genuine and simple as the whole MAMMU concept.
