It doesn’t take long to figure out why two glittering, but still somewhat undiscovered, pearls of Latvian music: Dj Monsta and Nick Gotham have gone from making music together to recording an album. It’s simple for them! Continuing the great collaboration between Nick Gotham and DDB which began with the creation of the design for his first album “Abi Gali”, the musicians have chosen DDB and graphic designer Jānis Birznieks to create the visual solution for their new album, because… it’s simple for Jānis too!
For a number of years now, Jānis Birznieks has not only been an outstanding graphic designer who was recently appointed Director of DDB Design, but he has also been active in the field of music. Jānis plays guitar and sings in the group: "Tramplīni". Therefore, as he admits, it’s a great thrill to be able to create designs for projects related to music. "Design must resonate with the same tonality as the music itself. Seeing the design, it must be immediately clear what the music is going to sound like," comments Jānis.
Dj Monsta and Nick Gotham began collaborating on their NiMo project two years ago. They have created a number of compositions in this period in the lounge, acid jazz and broken beats style, 11 of which are included in their new album "The World Is Your Oyster", which was presented on 7 December at Meta Café. The album is currently already on sale at all the biggest music stores and their next concert will take place on 18 December in Ventspils at"Jūras Vārti" where NiMo will perform together with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and its 70 musicians.
