It seems that we've reached the age when receiving a present is no longer the most interesting part of your birthday. We've understood that the best thing to receive on your birthday is the joy of giving. Therefore, we wanted to do and create big things on the occasion of our birthday and this is why we helped to establish the library!
With DDB's support to date and the gifts generously presented by our business partners and friends on the occasion of DDB's 15th anniversary, the kim? public library already contains publications from about 30 foreign galleries, artists, as well as art critics and historians. Many thanks to everybody! Together we've created a specific collection of books unavailable anywhere else in Latvia which will help to provide reference points for those interested in the dynamics of contemporary art and offer an introduction to the evolution of art not only for students, but also for artists, critics and historians.
An important goal of the formative kim? library is to initiate an exchange of opinions, discussions and direct reflections on how to generate a stream of cultural texts and printed works through informal discussions at the library table.
The library has been actively functioning in the Spīķeru quarter of the city since 8 October and is currently preparing to host its first major events to which you are also kindly invited. On 23 November the library will host a lecture by architect Ieva Zībārte, followed a presentation by Italian art scholar Simone Menegoi on 24 November about how to operate with a vacuum of knowledge. The following month will see the library host a lecture by philosopher Jānis Taurenis on 10 December along with a musical performance by Lithuanian artist Arturas Bumšteinas. More information about the events and happenings at the library can be found at the kim? homepage.
Many thanks to LMT, Diena, Spice, Kārlis Auza, Poligrāfijas uzņēmums, Gatis Šļūks, Aivars Avotiņš, Latvia Statoil, Marana Productions, Dobeles Dzirnavnieks, Vējš Zīmolos, Lattelecom, Radio 101 and everyone else who donated books and helped to establish this library! See you at kim?
