Now we`ve got our own director. Una Rozenbauma. (0)

Una is feminine. She wears only dresses or skirts and is the visual embodiment of her vocation – artist. However, Una is not your typical artist. She hasn’t studied at the Art Academy, but she did learn to draw in childhood. Nor has she studied direction in the classical sense, even though she did work at “Vilks Studio“ as an assistant director and later as an independent director, mainly filming TVCs. Parallel to this, she also made experimental films, but in March this year we can all look forward to the release of Una’s first serious short film “Window”. It features performances from real actors instead of friends or acquaintances.

Una is not only the film’s director, but also its scriptwriter. “It’s a story written by Oscar Wilde’s contemporary Monroe. I discovered it and realised that I had to film it. I translated and wrote the script myself,” explains Una. “We received the money from the Culture Capital Fund!” This short film is only an interlude, because Una’s big plan is to film a feature film. It could be a fairytale film for adults, but it could just as easily be a detective or sports film. Una wants to film it in the magic realism style like Amélie in which real life and visualised thoughts are combined.

Una loves to create. Not only in the genre of advertising, but also in the kitchen. Cooking is something magical. Una finds a recipe on the Internet, translates and then puts all the ingredients together – an experiment that is almost scientific in its nature.

Una has two sons – Francis (9) and Stefans (3). “If I didn’t have sons, I’d be much more boyish. I’d have something to polish, and I doubt I’d want to polish myself. When I was pregnant with Francis, I was convinced I was going to have a daughter. I think that was when I became a fan of football. I used to watch it and learned the rules, because I knew that I’d have to explain it to him!” recalls Una.

She still follows global football and is delighted that at last year’s World Cup, the Golden Ball was awarded to Diego Forlan who became her favourite after Luis Figo was pensioned off. Right now, Una has decided to get some girls together who like playing football and are ready to tackle this masculine sport at least once a week.

All that remains is to wish Una lots of creatives ideas, her own feature film and football team!
