We experienced a time when Latvia had the fastest growing economy in the world. Immediately after that, we experienced a time when it became the fastest falling economy in the world, depriving several tens of thousands of Latvian families of their jobs and livelihood. This was the reason why, in partnership with ziedot.lv and many of our friends, business partners and companies that didn’t remain indifferent and got involved, in 2009 DDB created possibly the last hope and a guardian angel for many Latvian families in the form of the food bank: Paēdušai Latvijai!

On 7 April, the Latvian Society House hosted an event at which the Paēdušai Latvijai food bank expressed its gratitude to the project’s organisers and supporters. Since the project’s launch, at least 700 volunteers from 56 different Latvian organisations have taken part in it. A total of almost LVL 500,000 has been donated to the project, while the weight of distributed food has reached almost 566 tonnes! This has made it possible to provide 17,768 hungry Latvian families with food! The project has been marked by a whole series of events which can be viewed together on this video. 

These excellent results have inspired us to continue the project and assist those in greatest need of our help. Therefore, from April 2011, the Paēdušai Latvijai food bank is moving on and changing the project’s emphasis by providing help to everybody who suddenly finds themselves in distress – regardless of whether the reason is an accident, illness or natural disaster – our goal will be to help by providing food! Good things should multiply!
