Raimonds Platacis springs another surprise (0)
In June, Youtube in partnership with Oxfam (an association of organisations with the aim of nature conservation, famine and human rights issues) announced a competition to find the best viralvideos which could motivate people to sign a petition which will eventually be submitted at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference due to be attended by world leaders in December this year. The authors of the two best videos were given the chance to represent the Youtube team at the Cannes advertising festival in the Young Lions video category. This was the first time in the history of the Cannes Lions that an organisation instead of a country had been represented in the Young Lions competition. Of the 700 viral videos submitted, only one representative from the Baltic States made it onto to the Final Shortlist – our very own DDB Latvia copywriter, Raimonds Platacis! His interactive video drew special attention and was posted on a number of major advertising blogs including www.adverbox.com , www.adme.ru , www.adland.tv among others. Asked about his achievement, Raimonds says: "Since this was a chance to represent Youtube, I tried to exploit the technical capabilities provided by this resource which seemed to be new for a lot of people. This proved to be the key to my success and the reason why my video was widely viewed and struck a chord with the jury. " We’re even more proud of Raimonds’ achievement, because this isn’t the first time that he’s made his mark on the international stage. In last year’s Cannes Lions Young Lionscyber category, Raimonds won a bronze medal together with his colleague, Mārcis Miķelsons (Cube)!
